Typical Questions and Answers
It's natural to have doubts — especially if you've already tried a lot. Here are the questions I hear most often, answered honestly.
01 I've seen multiple doctors and nothing has worked. Why would this be different?
Conventional medicine is excellent at managing symptoms — but it isn't always designed to ask why they keep coming back. Naturopathy's starting point is different: what is the underlying driver of this condition? That might be gut dysfunction, chronic inflammation, immune dysregulation, diet, stress, or a combination. Most of my clients come to me after years of partial relief. The shift comes when we stop chasing symptoms and start addressing what's feeding them.
02 Is herbal medicine actually evidence-based? Or is this just alternative medicine?
Many herbs have robust clinical research behind them — often more than people realise. I trained in New Zealand, where naturopathic and herbal medicine is taught within a biomedical framework. I prescribe practitioner-grade formulations (not health food store products) and stay current with the research. My approach is integrative, not oppositional — I work alongside your existing medical care, not against it.
03 I'm on medication. Can I still work with you?
Yes — and this is more common than you might think. Many of my clients are on steroids, immunosuppressants, or biologics when they first come to see me. We work within that reality, supporting your body's healing capacity alongside (not instead of) what your doctor has prescribed. Over time, and in consultation with your medical team, some clients are able to reduce or step away from medications — but that's never the starting point or the pressure.
04 How long will this take?
Honestly, it depends on how long the condition has been present, its severity, and how consistently we can work together. Many clients notice meaningful shifts within the first 4–8 weeks. Some conditions, particularly long-standing autoimmune or skin presentations, require 3–6 months of sustained work. I'll always give you a realistic picture at your first consultation.
05 Do you only treat skin and joints?
No — while skin and musculoskeletal conditions are my areas of special focus, I am supporting clients with a wide range of chronic conditions including gut health, respiratory issues, children's health, immune resilience, and more. If you're unsure whether I can help, feel free to get in touch first.
06 What should I expect at my first consultation?
Your first consultation is a collaborative conversation — a chance to be heard fully, and to begin building a clear picture of what is driving your condition. We'll do a thorough review of your health history, current concerns, diet, lifestyle, and goals. By the end, you'll have a personalised Wellness Plan with therapeutic goals, dietary guidance, and lifestyle recommendations — as well as an assessment of whether herbal or nutraceutical support is appropriate for you.
07 How is this different from seeing a GP or specialist?
A GP or specialist is typically focused on diagnosing and managing a specific condition within their area. My role is different: I take the time to understand the full picture — how your systems relate to each other, what your lifestyle and environment contribute, and what natural interventions can support your body's own healing capacity. Consultations are typically 60 minutes, compared to a 10–15 minute GP appointment.
08 Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly through the website. If you'd like to discuss whether naturopathy is right for your situation before committing to a consultation, feel free to reach out via the contact page first.
